WORK IN EUROPE PREPARATION PROJECT (WEPP)

WEPP is a skills acquisition and improvement initiative, launched by Try-act EWIV and local partners in Nigeria, to help meet the skills deficiencies countries in Africa are facing in certain sectors of their economies.

It is also geared towards assisting European countries facing shortages in key sectors of their economies by allowing Nigerian exchange workers (or workers from selected other countries in Africa) to acquire additional skills and know-how as well as additional or higher certificates. Applicants will be allowed to work in Germany (or other European countries) in certain limited sectors for at least 3 years as part of a paid skills acquisition and training programme.

What is our aim

Our short, medium and long term objectives are to address irregular migration as well as reintegration of voluntary returnees. In recent years, African emigrants have lost their lives in the process of migrating to Europe through Libya and other dangerous routes. Our aim is to create a permanent professional source of qualified labour to be temporarily deployed in Europe through pre-established programmes within both home and destination countries. Those presented to European employers must be able to speak basic entry level German (or the language of the destination country) in Europe. They will also be trained concerning cultural norms and values in Europe. The programme will continue the integration process after arrival at the host country. In addition WEPP aims to assist European partner companies planning to establish a subsidiary employing qualified staff in Nigeria (or another African country).

What does the candidate gain

Candidates will have an opportunity to legally work in Germany (and in due course in other European countries) with training and assistance through respective WEPP programmes. They will be assigned to local European companies with the assistance of Government Agencies in Europe. Candidates will be given an opportunity to improve their skills and boost their careers, as they will be expected to eventually return to their home countries in Africa.
